When considering a lighting plan for your home, don’t forget the portables. Also called table lamps and floor lamps, portables accomplish several things- they add style, designate areas of your home and provide task lighting right where it is needed.
A seating area in a home looks much more inviting when warmly lit by a pair of table lamps and nothing says sit and relax with a good book like an oversized chair illuminated by a good reading lamp. Portables also allow for the expression of style. They are functional accessories that add to a room in a way recessed or track lighting cannot.
That’s why when customers bring in their blueprints we always make sure they add sockets either to the wall or to the floor where they plan to create seating. In larger homes, where the seating areas often float in the center of the room, floor plugs are an absolute necessity to avoid wires laying across the floor creating a safety hazard.
Things to consider when shopping for a portable are height, scale, style and light output. For example, tall lamps on an end table next to a sofa can be glarey because the height allows for the bulb to be exposed. Taller lamps are usually called Buffet Lamps because they are designed to be placed atop a piece of furniture like a buffet where people would be standing instead of seated.
Our showroom has extensive selection of portables and our knowledgeable associates can help you select one that is perfect for your space.
