Retrofit LED bulbs (technically they are called lamps but as that can get confusing for the average lighting buyer we will call them bulbs) are LED versions of existing bulb types made to fit existing or new lighting fixtures with conventional sockets.
Whereas, integrated LEDs refer to complete fixtures with the diodes built in and no conventional “socket”. Both options have their pros and cons with each having the benefit of energy efficiency, cooler operating temperature and greatly increased life.
In most cases we still find that retrofit options are the way to go especially when it comes to decorative lighting. For one, existing fixtures can be converted to LED with just the cost of the bulb. Also, there are way more conventional options still on the market so selection is definitely a pro.
As for integrated fixtures, the LEDs are engineered to limit the amount of heat which optimizes color and lumen output as well as lamp life.
